HHIC supports Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week
17th Nov 2015
The Heating and Hotwater Industry Council, HHIC, are supporting Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week, taking place this week, 16 – 22 November.
Stewart Clements, Director of HHIC said “CO is clear, odourless and tasteless and people fall victim to the affects with little warning. According to the Gas Safety Trust, approximately 4000 people are hospitalised every year suffering from CO poisoning and there are 40 fatalities.
We want:
- homeowners to fit a CO alarm and have any gas appliances regularly serviced by a Gas Safe Registered Heating Engineer
- the Government to make the fitting of CO alarms in all new build homes in England and Wales mandatory as it is in Scotland and research undertaken into the health impacts of non-fatal levels of CO exposure.
One death is simply one too many and we must continue to educate people on the actions they can take to prevent CO poisoning.”
